Purdue Snaps Denver’s Three-Game Winning Streak

The Pioneers will have a week off before opening Summit League play on Monday, December 20 at Western Illinois

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.  – The University of Denver women's basketball team ended non-conference play with a 101-68 loss to Purdue on Sunday afternoon at Mackey Arena. Denver heads into Summit League play in eight days with an overall record of 5-6.
 
Inside The Box Score:
Uju Ezeudu recorded her second-straight double-double and her third of the season with 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting, to go with 10 rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Anna Jackson connected on four triples en-route to a 16-point afternoon. Meghan Boyd rounded out Denver's double-figure scorers with 10 points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal.
 
Cassidy Hardin led the way for the Boilermakers with 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
 
First Quarter:
Boyd connected on a triple on the first possession to give the Pioneers the early lead. After a mini 5-0 run from the Boilermakers, Jackson hit her first triple of the afternoon to give the Pios the lead back two minutes in. Purdue responded with a 10-2 run to take a seven-point advantage, a lead the Boilermakers would stretch to 11 at the end of the quarter.
 
Purdue's hot shooting was the story of the quarter as the Boilermakers shot 11-for-16, including 6-for-10 from beyond the arc. Hardin had eight of Purdue's 28 in the first quarter. Boyd led the Pios with five and Ezeudu had a couple good drives to the basket for four points in the opening 10 minutes. Following a 60-minute night less than 48 hours ago, Denver got off to a slow start beyond the arc, shooting just 2-of-9 in the first.
 
Second Quarter:
The Boilermakers continued their hot shooting in the second quarter, going 10-of-14, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to stretch the lead to 53-35 at the intermission. Seven different players scored in the quarter for Purdue, who shot 21-of-30 as a whole in the first half (70%).
 
Jackson led the Pioneers in the second quarter with seven to get into double figures and Ezeudu had another five to bring her first-half total to nine.
 
Third Quarter
Purdue used an 8-0 run under a two-minute stretch to take the lead to 26 at the under-5 media. Denver was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the quarter, but the hot-shooting of the Boilermakers continued and the home team was able to extend its lead to 82-55 with 10 minutes to play.
 
Boyd and Ezeudu both led the Pioneers in the quarter with five points, while Joclyen Wyatt chipped in a triple and free-throw off the bench.
 
Fourth Quarter:
Purdue outscored Denver 19-13 in the final 10 minutes, a stanza that saw Ezeudu score eight of her 22 on a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
 
Notes:
  • Anna Jackson finished in double figures for the third-straight game, the sixth time this season and the 17th time in her career.
  • Uju Ezeudu finished with her third double-double of the season and the 10th of her career.
    • Ezeudu finished in double figures for the sixth-straight game, the 10th time in 11 games this season and the 44th time in her career.
    • Ezeudu finished in double figures in rebounds for the second-straight game, the fourth time this season and the 13th time of her career.
  • Meghan Boyd finished in double figures for the eighth time this season and the 35th time in her career. 
What's Next:
Denver will have a week off before opening Summit League play at Western Illinois on December 20 at 5 p.m. MT.
