Denver Earns 27-Point Win over Colorado Christian

The Pioneers will close out non-conference play on the road this week at Butler and Purdue

DENVER  – The University of Denver women's basketball team had five players finish in double figures in a 89-62 win over Colorado Christian on Tuesday night inside Hamilton Gymnasium.
 
Inside The Box Score:
Meghan Boyd led all scorers with 19 on 7-of-13 shooting and 4-for-8 beyond the arc to go with two rebounds and three assists. Uju Ezeudu had 14 on 4-of-8 shooting and was perfect on six trips to the line. Ezeudu added two rebounds five assists, two steals and two blocks to continue her stretch of well-rounded stat lines.
 
Makayla Minett added a career-high 12 points to go with a team-high six rebounds and a game-high three blocks. Tess Santos also had 12 and Anna Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11.
 
First Quarter:
Denver raced out to an early lead that got as big as 12 to end the quarter. The Pioneers knocked down their first four triples of the evening as Jackson (2), Santos and Boyd all connected from beyond the arc in the opening five minutes.
 
Jackson got a third from deep to finish with nine in the opening 10 minutes. Minett finished a trio of feeds in the post for six points and Santos and Boyd had five in the first.
 
Second Quarter:
Santos and Boyd connected on a pair of threes in the opening three minutes of the second, and Boyd converted hers into a four-point play to push to lead to 16.
 
Denver would go 4-for-9 from beyond the arc in the quarter to stretch to 9-for-20 in the game. Ezeudu got to the line four times and made a pair of buckets for eight points to lead the way for the Pioneers in the second. Boyd had seven of her 12 first-half points in the quarter as well.
 
The Pioneers assisted on 13 of their 17 field goals in the opening 20 minutes, turning it over just six times. Denver rotated 10 players in the first half, and eight got on the scoreboard. On the other side, Sophia Karasinski had eight in the first half to lead the Cougars.
 
Third Quarter
Minett got six quick points in five minutes in the third quarter to break her career high with point number 12 on the night. Boyd added another four to stretch her game-high to 16. Colorado Christian won the quarter 22-18, but the Pioneers carried a 21-point lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
Fourth Quarter:
Ezeudu led the Pioneers with six of her 14 in the fourth, a quarter the Pioneers edged the visiting Cougars 21-13. Eight different Pioneers scored in the final 10 minutes.
 
Notes:
  • Meghan Boyd got into double figures for the fifth-straight game, the seventh time this season and the 34th time in her career.
  • Tess Santos got into double figures for the third-straight game, the fifth time this season and the 20th time in her career.
  • Makayla Minett reached double figures for the second time in her career and finished with a career-high 12 points.
  • Uju Ezeudu got into double figures for the fourth game in a row, for the eighth time this season and for the 42nd time in her career.
  • Anna Jackson got into double figures for the fourth time this season and the 15th time in her career.  
  • Denver had five players in double figures for the third time under second-year head coach Doshia Woods
What's Next:
Denver will return to the road to close out non-conference play this weekend with trips to Butler (Friday at 4 p.m. MT) and Purdue (Sunday at 12 p.m. MT).
