Denver Women Shine in Opening Night of First Chance Invite

The Pioneers won eight of 14 events on Friday
DENVER – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs opened up the First Chance Invite on Friday night at El Pomar Natatorium.
Denver Event Wins
Women's 400 IM – Charlotte Simon – 4:27.44
Women's 200 Free – Ines Marin – 1:50.36
Women's 100 Back – Kerrigan Hemp – 56.92
Women's 100 Breast – Brandi Vu – 1:03.24
Women's 200 Fly – Daniela Alfaro – 2:07.71
Women's 50 Free – Erika Remington – 23.42
Women's 1650 Free – Angie Lindsay – 17:39.66
Men's 1650 Free – Mads Rishoj – 16:04.96
Meet Highlights
Denver took the top four spots in the women's 400 IM, led by Charlotte Simon's 4:27.44. Uma Knaven finished second with a time of 4:32.54.
The Pioneers took the top four spots in the women's 200 free with a first-place finish for Ines Marin, clocked in at 1:50.36.
DU's women swept the podium in its third event of the night. Kerrigan Hemp, Natalie Arky, and Annabeth Scalise clocked in at 56.92, 57.03 and 58.41, respectively.
Brandi Vu and Charlotte Simon kept the good night rolling for the Pios' women's program. Vu took first in 1:03.24 and Simon clocked in at 1:04.90 to take second.
Daniela Alfaro led a trio of Denver women that swept the podium in the 200 fly. Alfaro timed at 2:07.71.
Prior to the mile race, Denver claimed the top two spots and five of the first six spots in the women's 50 free. Erika Remington finished in 23.42 and Aysia Leckie clocked in at 23.60 to claim the top two spots.
Angie Lindsay won the mile race with a 17:39.66 before Mads RishØj gave Denver's men a win in the mile with a 16:04.96.
