Denver Earns 4-1 Win over Oral Roberts; Completes Weekend Sweep

Beckman and Feller had a goal and an assist each in the win

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team played from behind early, but got two goals on either side of halftime to defeat Oral Roberts 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Daine Wendt Sports Complex.

Turning Point:
Natalie Beckman setup Sami Feller's third goal of the year in the 16th minute to capitalize on Denver's momentum after conceding early.

First Half:
Oral Roberts got on the board first as a mis-clearance by a Denver defender saw the ball bounce in the Pioneers own net. Through five matches, the Pioneers have conceded only the two own goals in 2021.

Beckman turned over an Oral Roberts midfielder in Denver's attacking half, and took several touches into the box before sliding it to Feller for goal number 20 of the junior's career.

Denver continued to take charge, outshooting Oral Roberts 8-1 in the opening 45 minutes. Beckman setup Denver's second goal as well, getting to the endline down the Denver left and playing a teasing ball across the six-yard box that was sent into the middle of the net by an Oral Roberts centerback.

Second Half:
McKenna Dannenhauer made it 3-1 Pioneers in the 48th minute, heading in a Camryn MacMillan cross. Sydney Sharp fought off an Oral Roberts defender to keep the ball in-play on the endline. Sharp played a ball to MacMillan on the right side of the penalty area, and MacMillan played a first-time cross to Dannenhauer who beat the keeper for the first goal of her career.

Last week's Summit League Offensive Player of the Week, Beckman added to her case to repeat for the award, scoring her fourth of the season in the 74th minute. Sharp and Feller combined in Denver's attacking half, before Feller sprayed it out to the run of Meg Halvorson. Halvorson took a couple touches down the Denver right and picked out the run of Beckman, who finished the ninth goal of her career with a diving header inside the penalty spot.

Significant Stats:
  • Denver outshot Oral Roberts 22-3, putting 11 of the 22 shots on goal. The Pioneers also took five of the seven corner kicks in the match.
Up Next:
Denver will continue its homestand against South Dakota for a two-game set starting on Friday at 12 p.m. MT. The match Sunday, February 28, will kickoff at 11 a.m. MT.
