CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The [7/5] University of Denver men's lacrosse team got the first goal of the game, but [4/4] North Carolina ended the half on an 14-2 run en-route to a 24-13 win on Sunday morning at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
Leaders:
Jack Hannah led Denver with four goals and a helper.
Ethan Walker,
Jackson Morrill and
Schuyler Blair had two goals apiece, and Walker and Blair added an assist for three-point afternoons.
First Quarter:
Hannah scored the first goal of the afternoon after being held scoreless on Friday afternoon. North Carolina responded with the next seven goals on its first nine shots and held a commanding 9-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Schuyler Blair scored with 1:54 to go in the first that briefly put a stop to UNC's 8-0 run.
Second Quarter:
North Carolina continued to pour it on in the second quarter, scoring the first five goals to push the lead all the way out to 12 at 14-2 with 5:20 to go in the half. Hannah got his second goal of the day with :26 seconds to go to make it 14-3 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
The Tar Heels pushed the lead to 15 through three quarters in Chapel Hill.
Jackson Morrill,
Ted Sullivan and
Ty Badciong all got goals for the Pioneers in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Denver ended the game on a 7-1 run.
Ethan Walker extended his goal streak to 22 games and Hannah completed the seventh hat trick of his career.
Significant Stats:
Denver's 24 goals allowed was its most in its Division I history
- Previous high was 21 goals allowed against Butler on April 16, 1999
- Most goals allowed since allowing 25 against Notre Dame in the Pioneers Division II days in 1992.
- Previous high in the Bill Tierney era was 16 at Ohio State in 2017.
