Smart Brings Home Title as Pios Dominate in Slalom Races

Senior wins National Championship in women’s slalom

FRANCONIA, N.H.  – University of Denver senior skier Amelia Smart turned in her best performance of the season, capturing the individual National Championship in the women's slalom race at the NCAA Championships at Cannon Mountain. The Pioneers posted the highest team score of the day (153 points), resulting in three first-team All-American selections in Simon Fournier, Reece Bell and Smart.

Significant Stats:
-  The women's side was dominated by the Crimson and Gold with Smart (first, 40 points) and Bell (fifth, 29 points) posting top-five finishes.
- Eleri Smart finished 12th (19 points).
- Denver's 88 points on the women's side was tops in the field.  
- On the men's side, Fournier recorded his first All-America selection in slalom, taking third place (34 points).
- Tobias Kogler finished up in 12th (19 points).
- Tristan Lane took 19th (12 points).
- The Crimson and Gold's big day resulted in a move into third place with 346 points through six races.

- Denver closes out the 2021 NCAA Championships with two Nordic races on Saturday. First up, the women's 15K Freestyle from the Jackson Nordic Center.
