Sharp’s Four-Points, Including Game-Winner, Sends Pios Past North Dakota

The Pioneers and Fighting Hawks will meet again Sunday at 11 a.m. MT

GRAND FORKS, N.D.  – The University of Denver women's soccer team got back to its winning ways with a 3-2 victory over North Dakota on Friday afternoon at Bronson Field.

Inside the Box Score:
Denver outshot North Dakota 23-6, and took 13 of the 15 corner kicks in the match on Friday. Sydney Sharp was involved in all three goals, scoring the game-winner and setting up Denver's first two tallies.

First Half:
North Dakota earned a corner kick right off the opening kickoff when Hannah Olson's shot was saved by Nerea Arrazola. The Fighting Hawks took advantage of the corner, with a goal from Olson in the second minute off an assist from Ashley Ebeling.

Denver put pressure right back on North Dakota, creating a couple of dangerous opportunities before Natalie Beckman netted the leveler in the 12th minute.

Sami Feller played a ball to Sharp down the right side of the penalty area. Sharp got a shot on target from a tough angle that was saved by Madi Livingston. Beckman was in the right place at the right time and got to the rebound first, knocking home her seventh goal of the season and the 13th of her career. The assist for Sharp was her second of the season and the third of her career.

Denver outshot North Dakota 8-3 in the opening 45 minutes and took five of the seven corner kicks in the first half.

Second Half:
The Pioneers continued to keep the pressure on, finding the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute, courtesy of Feller's sixth of the season. Meg Halvorson beat her defender down the Denver right, dribbling into the box. Halvorson pin-balled it to Sharp, who fed it to Kaitlyn Glover, who laid it back off to Feller to setup Denver's go-ahead strike. Feller knocked it home from a few inches left of the penalty spot for the 23rd goal of her career.

Glover's assist was her second of the season and the third of her career, while Sharp's second assist of the day was the fourth of her career.

Lauren Glas tied it at 2-2 in the 62nd minute with a ball just under the crossbar from 35 yards out.

Already on two assists for the afternoon, Sharp netted Denver's third of the day in the 71st minute off nice build up play from Beckman and Addisyn Hyrup. Jordan Crockett picked out Beckman with a pass in the center of the park. Beckman took a touch, turned and found the run of Hyrup down the left flank. Hyrup's cross went all the way across the box and Sharp knocked it into an open net for her third goal of the season and the fifth of her career.

Significant Stats:
  • Feller's 23rd career goal moves her into a tie with Kristin Warren and Kalie Vaughn for 10th in Denver's Division I record book.
  • Beckman's goal gave her career point number 50 in Crimson and Gold.
