No. 19 Denver Tops Arizona State, 22-10

DENVER  – The No. 19 Denver Pioneers women's lacrosse team defeated Arizona State 22-10 its 2021 home opener and first-ever meeting with the Sun Devils on Sunday at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Turning Point
Leading 6-5 at 14:41 of the first half, Denver scored seven straight goals before the break. Eliza Radochonski scored three of her six goals during the Pioneers' run to take an eight-goal lead by the second half.
 
First Half
The Pioneers smothered the Sun Devils from the outset with Radochonski scoring on Denver's first possession and Caroline Wiseman following up to give the Crimson & Gold a 2-0 lead in the first 2:00. The Sun Devils tied the game at 4-4, then cut their deficit to 6-5 following Pioneer goals from Bea Behrins and Radochonski. Arizona State scored all five of its goals on seven free position shots in the first half. Once those opportunities began to subside, Denver took over on offense with a seven-goal run to take a 13-5 lead and 20-6 advantage in shots on goal by halftime.

Second Half
The Pioneers' eight-goal cushion from the first half allowed them to remain distanced from the Sun Devils. Radochonski completed her sock trick 1:21 into the second half. Arizona State outscored Denver 5-3 during a brief 11:13 stretch of the second half, but the Pioneers took over with four goals in the final 9:06 to record the win.
