MILWAUKEE – The [19/RV] University of Denver women's lacrosse team won its second-straight BIG EAST regular season title with a 12-11 double overtime win over Marquette on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Inside the Box Score:
Hannah Liddy's only goal of the game was the decider, as she scored with 25 seconds to go in the second overtime period to complete a three-point afternoon.
Mackenzie Wallevand scored four-straight in a 6-0 second-half run for the Pioneers.
Eliza Radochonski and
Kayla DeRose had three points on two goals and a helper.
Kailey Conry rounded out Denver's multi-goal scorers with a pair of tallies.
Molly Little and
Abby Jenkins led Denver in the draw game with three apiece.
Kailee Lammers and
Ellie Curry led Denver statistically on the defensive end with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Sam Thacker added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Gracie DeRose picked up three ground balls to lead Denver in the category.
First Half:
Marquette got on the board with the first two goals of the game inside the first 3:01. The Pioneers then responded with four-straight and five of the next six. Radochonski scored two in the four-goal spurt, sandwiching her goals around tallies from DeRose and Conry.
Marquette ended the half on a 3-1 run. Shea Garcia's second made it 4-3 Denver,
Bea Behrins answered with a woman-up tally to make it 5-3, and then Carolina Steller scored the final two of the opening 30 minutes to send the teams into the intermission just as they were Friday, tied at 5-5.
Second Half:
On Friday, Denver opened the second half on an 11-0 run to break the game open. Sunday, however, it was Marquette that took control of the contest coming out of the locker room, coming out with four-straight in the first 14:48 of the half to extend the scoring run that dated back to the first half to a six-goal spurt and made it 9-5 Golden Eagles with 15:12 to play. Denver didn't go away, scoring the next six, including four-straight from Wallevand to cap the run. DeRose and Conry got the first two goals of the run.
Marquette's Lindsey Hill scored the final two goals of regulation, including the game-tying goal with four seconds to play to send Denver to its second overtime game in the last four.
Overtime:
Denver survived five Marquette free position opportunities in the first overtime session, but held the Golden Eagles scoreless to send the game to a second overtime. Thacker won the final draw control, picking up the second overtime draw before the Pioneers called timeout. On Denver's fifth shot of the second overtime, Liddy dodged from behind the cage and back-handed her 14
th goal of the season into the back of the net to send the Pioneers to their 10
th-straight victory.

Denver's previous conference titles came in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2019 (BIG EAST).
Up Next: Denver will return to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium next weekend for a two-game series with Villanova. The opening draw in the series opener on Friday is set for 1 p.m. MT. The Pioneers will honor their senior class on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT in the series finale against the Wildcats.
