DENVER - University of Denver men's basketball head coach
Jeff Wulbrun announced the signing of
Felipe Motta on Friday. The incoming freshman has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue his academic and athletic career with the Pioneers.
"At 6-foot-7, Felipe is an elite level 3-point shooter and has benefited tremendously from his international experience, competing against some of the best competition in all of Europe," Wulbrun said. "Additionally, his experience with the NBA Academy in Australia has prepared him for success at the collegiate level. He comes from an athletic family, with both parents competing in the sates collegiately. He is a perfect fit academically and culturally for the University of Denver and our basketball program."
Prior to playing in Italy, Motta attended the NBA Global Academy in Australia, graduating this past December. The sharpshooting forward also has been a member of the Brazil National Team from 2017-19. He was named the MVP of the U15 South American Championship after scoring 36 points against Uruguay in the finals. For that tournament, Motta averaged a tournament-leading 18.6 points to go with 6.0 rebounds per game.
He also competed in the 2019 FIBA Americas U16, posting averages of 13.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Denver has started its offseason workouts in preparation for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
