Denver Narrowly Misses Out on NCAA Championship Berth

Griggs ties for ninth as season comes to a close
CLE ELUM, WASH. – The University of Denver men's golf team nearly had a historical moment, almost securing its first NCAA Championship appearance in 61 years on Wednesday at NCAA Cle Elum Regional. The Pioneers finished sixth after posting a team score of 9-over (861) for the three-day tournament.
Course Info:
- Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort
- Par 71 for the course
- 7,069 yards
Significant Stats:
- Top five teams and individual from non-advancing team advance to NCAA Championship.
- No. 50 East Tennessee State took home the team title at 14-under, 10 strokes ahead of runner-up No. 25 San Francisco.
- The Crimson and Gold fought hard, but fell three shots back on the final qualifying spot, taken by No. 17 Florida.
Inside the Round for the Pioneers:
- Carson Griggs closed out his season by tying for ninth in the regional at 2-under.
- Cal McCoy fought off a tough second round to climb out 12 spots to finish tied for 21st at 4-over.
- Jackson Solem placed 32nd at 5-over for 36 holes.
- Esteban Missura finished up in 60th.
- Connor Jones had two good rounds after subbing in after round one, shooting a 2-over 143 for the tournament.
Up Next:
The Pioneers will return to action in the fall for the 2021-22 season.
