SIOUX FALLS, S.D.  – The University of Denver men's golf team took home two of the three end-of-season awards from the Summit League on Thursday. Jackson Solem was named Summit League Player of the Year and Trake Carpenter Coach of the Year in a release by the league.

This marks the first time since 2019 that the Pioneers have took home both awards. This is also the first time both Jackson and Carpenter have won the award.

Solem is coming off a career year for the Pioneers in 2021 season. The senior was named All-Summit League First Team for the first time in his career after a career-best 71.92 scoring average, which included a team-high 13 rounds of par or better and two top-five finishes.

"Jackson made one of the biggest improvements over the last season in college golf," Carpenter said. "From the moment I arrived in Denver last fall, I could tell he was ready to make a big leap. Jackson is great at addressing all the parts of his game that he can control, and his preparation and commitment set the standard for our program. I'm excited for Jackson returning next year to have his leadership as we look to make some noise again next season."

Solem was at his best when it mattered most, having a season-best second-place finish at the Summit League Championship as the Pioneers captured the title for a second straight year.

For Carpenter, the first-year coach made an instant impact, guiding the Crimson and Gold to a league championship in his first year at the helm. Not only that, but Carpenter had Denver in position to make its first NCAA Championship appearance in over 60 years the NCAA Cle Elum regional back on May 19, with the Pioneers finishing sixth, one spot of the top-five needed to advance.
