Freshman Mary Wilson is joining the Denver women's basketball team in 2021-22 after graduating from Central Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind. The two-time All-Indiana selection scored 1,056 for the Trojans in her career.
 
Q&A with Wilson
What made you fall in love with the game of basketball?
I fell in love with the game because it became a place where I could escape from reality and I enjoyed the process of seeing my game improve the harder I worked.
 
When did you know you could play at the Division I level?
I knew I wanted to play at the DI level around the 7th grade. From then on, I always wanted to prove to myself and others that I could compete at the highest level and play against some of the best.
 
What is your favorite basketball moment?
My favorite basketball memory growing up would probably have to be playing in the boys basketball church league. I learned how to play more aggressively and it was empowering being the only girl. It gave me a lot of confidence from then on.
 
Have any of your family members played collegiate or professional sports and what team/position did they play?
My dad played football at Indiana University.

Growing up playing basketball, who had the most influence on the development of your game?
My 7th grade coach had the most influence on the development of my game because he really pushed me to start shooting outside the paint and took time to help me after practice to work on various skills. He was one of the first people to see my potential.
