DENVER – The University of Denver hockey program mourns the loss of former Pioneer defenseman
Wayne Klinck, Sr.
Klinck played for the Pioneers in the 1957-58 and 1958-59 seasons, helping the program to the 1958 National Championship and a 22-5-1 record the following season. Klinck assisted on Denver's fourth goal of the night at 7:18 of the third period to push Denver's lead in the 1958 National Championship to 4-2, a game Denver eventually won 6-2 over North Dakota.
Klinck collected 32 points from the blue line in his two-year career with the Crimson and Gold, netting seven goals to go with 25 assists.
Following his playing career, Klinck was invited to training camp with the Chicago Blackhawks before picking up an injury and ending his playing career. Klinck devoted over 20 more years to the game though, officiating hockey in the NCAA, WHL and NHL following his playing career.
Klinck used his bachelor's degree from DU in business to develop his own custom home building business, Klinck Construction. Married to his wife Nancy for 62 years, the two met in Denver during Klinck's Pioneer career.
