Get to Know You: Taelyr Gatlin
Senior guard Taelyr Gatlin returns to the Pioneers for a fourth season in 2021-22.
Q&A with Gatlin
How has the transition been with the new staff?
I've enjoyed the transition. I've been able to build connections with Coach Wulbrun and the staff quicker than expected. I'm really excited for what our future holds.
What made you fall in love with the game of basketball?
I fell in love with the game after i figured out it was a tool to help me build a better relationship with my dad.
When did you know you could play at the Division I level?
I always knew i could play at the division 1 level because I worked hard.
What is your favorite basketball moment?
My favorite basketball moment growing up is my first in game dunk.
Have any of your family members played collegiate or professional sports and what team/position did they play?
My dad and uncle both played college basketball as a pg/sg. And I have a cousin, Justin Gatlin, an Olympic track runner.
Growing up playing basketball, who had the most influence on the development of your game?
The most influential people who played apart in my development was my dad because he made me work even on the days i didn't want to, Dwayne Wade, because I used to want to be like him, and my mom, she kept me grounded and help me understand that there's always room for improvement.
