[RV] Denver Opens Colorado Cup with 3-1 Win Over CC

The Pioneers will continue the Colorado Cup and officially open the regular season on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium

COLORADO SPRINGS – The University of Denver women's soccer program opened up the 2021 Colorado Cup with a 3-1 win over Colorado College, in a match that will officially count as an exhibition, on Saturday night at Stewart Field.

DU: Feller 7', Sharp 18' (Beckman), Sharp 61' (Parker)
CC: Gaffney 28' (Wessler)

For the 2021 season, the University of Denver announced the creation of a new DU soccer fan club called "Denver FC". Fans that purchase the Denver FC package will get season tickets to all Denver men's and women's soccer home games, a Denver FC scarf and a season parking pass for all Denver Soccer home events.

Saturday's Colorado Cup Match Results:
Colorado State 2-2 Northern Colorado
Air Force 0-2 Colorado
Colorado College 1-3 Denver
 
First Half:
Sami Feller picked off a Colorado College pass and beat the keeper 1v1 to put the Pioneers ahead seven minutes in. Sydney Sharp headed home Denver's second off a cross from Natalie Beckman to double the Pioneers lead inside the first 18 minutes at Stewart Field.
 
CC pulled one back in the 28th minute when Adelaide Gaffney headed home an Alexis Wessler free kick to cut the Pioneers lead in half.
 
CC outshot Denver 5-3 in the opening 45 minutes.
 
Second Half:
Sharp received a long ball over the top of the CC back-four from Taylor Parker and beat the keeper 1v1 in the 61st minute to restore Denver's two-goal advantage.
 
Denver took the only two corner kicks of the second 45. Nerea Arrazola finished the match with five saves, including three stops in the final 45 minutes.
 
What's Next:
Denver will open the regular season with its second of three Colorado Cup matches, hosting Air Force at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium on Thursday, August 19 at 7 p.m. MT.
