DENVER – The University of Denver's Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium hosted the 2021 Össur and Challenged Athletes Foundation Running and Mobility Clinic last month, an event that primarily gave people with limb differences the opportunity to get the exercise they needed for the first time in Denver in an organized event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We're providing the tools, the resources and the community for individuals with lower limb loss to be able to go out and to run, to walk, to do whatever they need to do, and we're super excited to do that today," Lauren Gerrbi, CAF program manager, told
9News Denver.
Former Denver cheerleader and two-time Paralympian
Lacey Henderson attended the event on the campus of her alma mater. Henderson is a Team USA Alternate for the upcoming Paralympic Games in Japan. In Brazil in 2016, Henderson competed in both the long jump and 100m sprint.
"The Challenged Athletes Foundation has done amazing things in our community and around the country," Henderson said. "Their contributions range from helping elite athletes with prosthetics with funding, to helping give a six year old the opportunity to competitively sprint around the field with his youth baseball team. They provide an amazing physical therapist that I'm pretty sure can teach anyone to run on anything, and it's just really special to have this type of support right here in Denver."
The 2013 Colorado Sports Hall of Fame inductee was featured on DenverPioneers.com before her first trip to the Paralympic Games.

"CAF and Össur team-up to do some amazing things," Henderson said. "I remember not even being aware that this was available, so I'd encourage anyone reading this that is in need of running and mobility assistance to contact the Challenge Athletes Foundation."
