Streak Moves to Five after Win Against Cardinals

Pioneers with 9.5 total blocks

DENVER – The University of Denver Volleyball team had it going on Friday night, eliminating Incarnate Word in three sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-21). The Pioneers' winning streak improved to five and pushed their record to 8-1 on the season.

  • Lydia Bartalo recorded her third straight match in double figures, finishing with 11.
  • The Crimson and Gold posted a .346 hitting percentage, its fourth tie in the last five matches with at least .300.
  • Brianna Green with a season-high 6.0 block assists.
Significant Stats
  • DU recorded a season-high 9.5 blocks, the sixth straight match with at least eight.
  • The Pioneers win puts them at 100-9 at home since 2014, fifth best record in all of the NCAA during that stretch.
  • Denver has now started 8-1 for a second straight season.
Turning Point
16-5 run to start the first set, setting the tone for the night.

1st Set
Denver opened in control, jumping out at an 11-3 advantage before Incarnate Word took a timeout to regroup. The Pioneers continued to push the lead to double figures at 15-5. The Crimson and Gold closed out the dominant set with a 25-13 win after a kill from Bartalo, her fifth of the set.

2nd Set
Both teams opened trading points, leading to a 4-4 tie. DU made its move with a 4-1 run at 8-7 to build a four-point lead and take command after an attack error from Chase Jackson. All Pioneers from there, finishing the set off with back-to-back attack errors from Incarnate Word.

3rd Set
The Cardinals took control to start the third, opening with a 9-5 run. A kill from Lorrin Poulter sparked a 5-1 run from Denver to tie things up at 10-10.  With the score tied at 16-16, the Pioneers finished up with a 9-5 run to secure the win.

The Pioneers (8-1) close out the Mile High Invitational with a matchup against Big 10 foe Iowa on Saturday. First serve is set for 6 p.m. MT and can be seen of Pioneer Vision.
