DU Opens Summit League Play with 3-0 Win Against WIU

Pioneer winning streak moves to seven

DENVER – The University of Denver Volleyball team opened up Summit League play the right way on Thursday, defeating Western Illinois in straight sets (25-22, 25-10, 25-16) in Hamilton Gymnasium. The Pioneers' victory upped its winning streak to seven.

  • Hailey Green had her best night yet this year, finishing with a career-high 11 kills on an efficient .668 hitting percentage.
  • Erica Andrich recorded her fifth match in double figures with 11, tying a season high.
  • Ellie Anderson had a season-high 29 assists.
  • The Crimson and Gold posted a +.300 hitting percentage for the sixth time this year, resulting in a 6-0 record.
Significant Stats
  • DU finished with seven total blocks, snapping a seven-match streak with at least eight.
  • The Pioneers win puts them at 102-9 at home since 2014, fifth best record in all of the NCAA during that stretch.
  • Denver's 10-1 start to the year is its best since 2018.
Turning Point
A 10-2 run to close out the first set.

1st Set
Both teams couldn't find separation to start, leading to a 10-10 tie in the opening moments of the evening. The Pioneers took a timeout after Western Illinois went up 14-13 after an attack error, sparking a 6-2 run for the Leathernecks. Denver, though, showed its resolve, going on a match-changing 10-2 run to take the first set, 25-22.

2nd Set
The Pioneers started fast, going on a 6-0 run to start. DU never let up the whole set, going up by double-digits after a kill from Boe to make it 17-7 en route to a big 25-10 set victory.

3rd Set
DU opened with a 10-7 advantage in the third, highlighted by some big plays from Green. It was all Denver from there, getting the win on a kill from Memphis Glasgow to take it 25-16.
