[RV/23] Denver Opens Road Slate at Grand Canyon Thursday

Pioneer prepare for weekend tournament in Phoenix against Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer program will look to finish its 2021 season-opening five-match homestand with a perfect record when the 4-0-0 Pioneers host 1-1-0 SMU on Monday at 2 p.m. MT. Monday's match is part of a Denver/SMU alternate site double header as the Denver men's program travels to Dallas for a 6 p.m. MT kickoff

For the 2021 season, the University of Denver announced the creation of a new DU soccer fan club called "Denver FC". Last Time Out:
The Pioneers outshot SMU 21-3 on the afternoon, but the Pioneers conceded four times including an own goal in the opening 15 minutes and fell 4-2 to SMU on Sunday at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
 
Denver vs. Grand Canyon Series History:
Thursday will mark the first NCAA Division I meeting between the two programs.
 
Notable Stats:
  • Denver has scored 14 goals from 11 different players to start the 2021 season. Sydney Sharp and Kaitlyn Glover are the only two players to score multiple goals for Denver this season, finding the back of the net three times and two times, respectively.
  • The Pioneers 11 different goal scorer's marks the most since 2013, when Denver had 13 different players find the back of the net. Denver's school record for different players to score in a season is 18 in the 2006 campaign.
  • Career Points Record Update: Feller has 71 career points, putting her eighth in Denver's Division I history. Beckman has 68 career points, moving her into the top 10.
  • Career Assists Record Update: Beckman has 34 career assists, two off Kristen Hamilton's 36 career assists and five assists off co-record holders Nicholette DiGiacomo and Jamie Norwood.
Returning Starters:
Denver returned nine starters last Thursday night that featured in Jeff Hooker's Starting XI just three months ago. Taylor Wells featured in place of Meg Halvorson and Addisyn Hyrup played outside back in place of Alex Nillen in the opener. Riley Baker replaced Wells in the Sunday matinee of the opening weekend and Jadyn Goodrich replaced Baker in the Starting XI last week against Utah. Baker returned to the starting lineup and scored her first career goal in Denver's win over Kansas State on September 2, and started again on September 6 against SMU.
 
What's Next:
The Pioneers will stay in Phoenix after Thursday's match to take on Northern Arizona. Kickoff for the neutral site match is set for 6:30 p.m. MT.
