DENVER – The University of Denver women's basketball team dropped a Thursday night Summit League contest to South Dakota inside Hamilton Gymnasium by a count of 79-51.
Inside the Box Score:
Uju Ezeudu finished in double figures for the 15
th time this season and the 49
th time in her career. Ezeudu put up 15 points and eight rebounds to go with three steals, two assists and a block.
First Quarter:
South Dakota raced out to an 8-0 and 30-3 run, shooting 12-for-17 in the opening quarter to take a 27-point lead into the second. Chloe Lamb led the Coyotes run with nine of USD's first 17 points.
Meghan Boyd had Denver's only points of the quarter, hitting her 36
th triple of the season.
Second Quarter:
The Coyotes stretched their lead to 37 at the intermission. The Pioneers shot 54.5 percent in the second on 6-of-11 shooting, getting four points each from
Tess Santos and Ezeudu and a triple from
Mary Wilson.
Third Quarter:
Back-to-back made triples from
Anna Jackson and Santos cut the Coyotes lead to 62-22 at the third-quarter media. Ezeudu led the Pioneers through the second half of the quarter with five of her team-high nine through the first three quarters coming in the third. Ezeudu also grabbed four rebounds and drew four fouls in the quarter. USD led 66-27 through three.
Fourth Quarter:
Boyd opened the quarter with a four-point play right in-front of the Pioneer bench, kick-starting an 11-5 run to begin the frame and cut the lead back down to 33. Ezeudu got into double figures in the fourth with six more points to bring her total to 15.
The Pioneers had seven different players score in the final period and outscored South Dakota 24-13 in the fourth to cut the final margin to 28.
What's Next:
The Pioneers will continue their four-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when Denver welcomes South Dakota State to Hamilton Gymnasium at 2 p.m. MT.
