DENVER – University of Denver sophomore
Bella Mabanta was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Mabanta set a new career high with her 9.950 performance on beam at Ohio State, helping lead Denver to a meet-best 49.375 team total on the event that would tie the eighth highest road score in school history. Her 9.950 was also the top score by either team on any event.
She captured the beam title – the second in her career – while also placing third overall on floor with a 9.850 that was just .025 off her personal best.
This is Mabanta's first career Big 12 weekly award and the second for a DU gymnast this year. Sophomore
Rylie Mundell was the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the first week of the season.
No. 6 Denver continues its three-meet road trip with its first Big 12 Conference meet of the season when DU travels to West Virginia on Friday, January 21.
