DENVER – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced on Monday that University of Denver senior
Brett Stapley has been named the league's forward of the week while freshman forward
Jack Devine has been named the rookie of the week.
This is each player's second NCHC honor of the season as Stapley was previously named Forward of the Week and Devine as Rookie of the Week for Nov. 29-Dec. 5.
Stapley had six points (2g/4a) in the Pioneers' two-game series versus Alaska Fairbanks last weekend, including tying a career high with four points (1g/3a) in Saturday's 4-4 tie. He scored and added an assist in DU's 7-2 win on Friday against UAF.
A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Stapley ranks tied for second on the team in scoring with 22 points (8g/14a) and has already set a new career high with eight goals on the year. He has recorded six goals and seven assists in the last six games.
In addition to the Forward of the Week award earlier in the year, Stapley twice won the league's Rookie of the Week honor as a freshman in 2018-19. This is the fourth time this year that a DU player has been named a week's top forward, with
Carter Savoie having also won the award twice.
Devine recorded four points with a goal and three assists in the weekend set versus the Nanooks. After picking up a helper in Friday's game, the Glencoe, Illinois, native set a new career high with three points (1g/3a) in Saturday's draw. It was his fourth multi-point game of the year, and he also added six shots in the contest, a personal best as well.
The forward has 13 points (2g/11a) in 17 games during his freshman campaign and, like Stapley, has also been producing more as of late. Devine has two goals and seven assists in his past six contests. This is the fourth Rookie of the Week honor this season for Denver, which leads the conference with 12 overall player of the week awards earned in 2021-22.
St. Cloud State's Spencer Meier was named conference's Defenseman of the Week, while Western Michigan's Brandon Bussi and Omaha's Isaiah Saville were named co-Goaltenders of the Week. Denver's
Justin Lee a nominee for Defenseman of the Week.
