DENVER, CO --The Denver volleyball team took the first two sets, but couldn't hold on and lost in five sets (25-15, 25-16, 21-25, 23-25, 12-15) to the South Dakota Coyotes Thursday at home at Hamilton Gymnasium.
The loss dropped Denver's record to 12-9 overall and 6-4 in Summit play.
The Pioneers were led by a double-double from Jordan Lockwood, who registered 16 kills and 13 digs on the day. Hailey Green also added 19 kills to help the offense.Brianna Green also pitched in with five in the contest. On the defensive end, Gianna Bartalo chipped in for with 19 digs to go with nine blocks from Brianna Green.

SET 1 | The Pioneers took control of the set-one lead at 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-15. Denver led by 13 points at 23-10 before closing out the set.
SET 2 | Denver took set two 25-16 to promptly jump to a 2-0 lead. Impressive serving helped the Pioneers grab the set win. Denver recorded five aces in the set win. The Pioneers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
SET 3 | South Dakota avoided an early loss with a third-set win to make it a 2-1 match. The Pioneers came up short by the score of 25-21. Denver trailed by as many as seven points as South Dakota grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was knotted up two times before the Coyotes took over the lead.
SET 4 | Denver then dropped their second straight set 25-23 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Pioneers fought back from a seven-point hole at 8-1, but it wasn't enough as South Dakota held on to win the set.
SET 5 | Denver won the first two sets, but couldn't win another set on their way to losing the match. The Pioneers had a lead early in the set at 2-1 before South Dakota took over.
