DENVER – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced on Monday that freshman forward
Rieger Lorenz of the Denver Pioneers hockey team has been named the NCHC Rookie of the Week.
Lorenz totaled two points (one goal, one assist), four shots and a plus-2 rating in two games last weekend as the Pioneers' swept the non-conference series against then-No. 11 Providence College. He opened the scoring in Friday's 4-1 win by tallying his first collegiate goal and then provided the game-winning assist on
Jack Devine's overtime tally in Saturday's 3-2 victory.
The Calgary, Alberta, native has registered three points (one goal, two assists) in six games since making his NCAA debut on Oct. 7 versus Notre Dame.
This is the first conference weekly award of Lorenz's career and the first of the season for the Pioneers.
Grant Cruikshank of St. Cloud State was named the NCHC's Forward of the Week while Western Michigan defenseman Cedric Fiedler and goaltender Cameron Rowe picked up the accolades for their respective positions. Denver's

Shai Buium (Defenseman) and
Magnus Chrona (Goaltender) were also finalists for this week's conference honors.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers open NCHC play this weekend as they travel to Oxford, Ohio, to take on the Miami RedHawks on Friday at 5 p.m. MT and Saturday at 3 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcasted on NCHC.tv.
