Denver Hockey Ranked No. 1 in the Nation

Pioneers take over the top spot in both national polls

DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team regained No. 1 overall in both the DCU/USCHO.com poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll after the latest national rankings were released on Monday.

The Pioneers return to the top spot after starting the season at No. 1 and holding that position through the first three weeks of the regular season. Denver is coming off a weekend sweep at then-No. 12/13 North Dakota, winning 3-2 on Friday and 6-3 on Saturday. It was DU's first two-game sweep of the Fighting Hawks since March 15-16, 2019 in Denver and its first at Ralph Engelstad Arena since Jan. 29-30, 2010.

North Dakota (4-5-2) dropped to No. 19 in both national polls.

Denver earned 44-of-50 first-place votes and 991 total points in the DCU/USCHO.com ranking and garnered 29-of-34 first-place tallies and 670 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. The Pioneers were previously ranked at No. 2 in the polls the past two weeks.

Overall, the NCHC has four teams ranked with St. Cloud State (4/4) and Western Michigan (14/12) joining the Pioneers and Fighting Hawks in the top 20. Minnesota Duluth received votes in both polls but fell out of the rankings for the first time since Feb. 29, 2016, ending a run of 154 straight weeks and five short of Denver's record of 159.

The Pioneers are entering their first bye of the season this week and return to action after Thanksgiving as they host Omaha on Nov. 25-26 at Magness Arena. Omaha received one vote in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine ranking this week.
