DU Skiing Announces 2022-23 Non-Collegiate Races

Pioneers set for Nor-Ams, World University Games and more this winter

DENVER – The University of Denver ski team is set to take part in several non-collegiate competitions during the 2022-23 winter season, including six Nor-Am Cup events and the 2023 U.S. Alpine and Cross Country National Championships.

Denver's alpine and Nordic squads begin racing on Nov. 30 with a pair of Nor-Am Cup events. Alpine opens with two weeks of slalom, giant slalom and Super G races at Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek, Colorado, while Nordic will head to Canada to start its competition season. The Nordic team will spend the early portion of the winter break training in British Columbia and racing in the Nor-Ams at Sovereign Lake.

The 2023 NCAA season opens the New Year for Nordic with a pair of RMISA qualifier events in classic sprints and 10K freestyle as part of the U.S. National Championships in Houghton, Michigan, on Jan. 2-4, but the Pioneer skiers will also compete for an American championship in the 20K classic and freestyle sprints on Jan. 6-7.

Several Nordic and alpine athletes are expected to represent their respective countries at both the World University Games in Lake Placid, New York, from Jan. 13-23, and at their FIS World Junior Championships later in the month. The alpine juniors are set for Jan. 20-25 in St. Anton, Austria, while the cross country junior and under-23 championships will take place in Whistler, Canada, from Jan. 28-Feb. 4.

The U.S. Alpine National Championships wrap up the 2023 competition year in Sun Valley, Idaho, on April 2-5. The DU alpiners will also race at the Holiday Classic in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on Dec. 19-22 and additional Nor-Am races at Burke Mountain and Stratton Mountain, Vermont, and at Whistler.
