No. 19 Bruins Use Big Second Half to Push Past Pios

Three Pioneers in double figures in the loss

LOS ANGELES, CA --The Denver men's basketball team hit 5-of-12 attempts from three-point range, shooting 41.7 percent from deep in an 87-64 loss to the UCLA Bruins on the road Saturday.

The Pioneers (8-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Touko Tainamo, who had 16 points and seven rebounds. Justin Mullins added 14 points and Tommy Bruner chipped in as well with 10 points and seven assists.

Denver took advantage of great ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 23 made field goals. Bruner's seven assists led the distribution list for the Pioneers and Ben Bowen also contributed with three assists of his own.

How It Happened

After falling behind 16-4, Denver went on an 8-0 run with 13:21 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 16-12. UCLA answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Pioneers down 44-35 entering halftime.

UCLA kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 79-48 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 79-55 with 4:42 to go in the contest. The Pioneers kept their comeback going, but UCLA managed to hold on for the 87-64 win.
