Moulden’s 200 Fly Win Leads Six Swimmers with NCAA B Standards

The Pioneers finished fourth in both the men’s and women’s 2022 Big Al Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs closed out the 2022 Big Al Invite with six NCAA B Standards, highlighted by Mia Moulden's victory in the women's 200 fly on Sunday night.

Nika Spehar led Denver in the first event of the night, taking sixth in the mile race with a time of 16:53.41. Angie Lindsay finished 11^th with a 17:14.45 and Olivia Porter clocked in at 17:17.35 to take 14^th.

In the men's mile, Kieran Watson gave Denver its first NCAA B-Standard of the night, taking third with a 15:13.97. Joseph Hancock took seventh with a 15:29.10 and Riley Babson rounded out a top-10 in an event that saw Denver score six different swimmers overall, clocking in at 15:40.23.

In the first event that had a prelim this morning, Arky took fourth in the 200 back with her 1:57.49. On the men's side, Dylan Wright finished in 1:45.01 to round out the top five in the 200 back.

Denver's women had two swimmers in the 100 free A-Final. Kali Metuzals improved on her time by more than a tenth to take third with a 50.51. Erika Remington clocked in at 50.80 to take sixth in the freestyle race. Ines Marin won the B-Final with a 50.61. Frank Tirone won the B-Final of the men's 100 free with his 44.65.

Jessica Maeda joined the group of Pioneers with NCAA provisional times on Sunday, clocking in at 2:13.27 in the women's 200 breast to earn a tie for second in the event.

Alex Lynch backed up his NCAA B-Standard in the men's 200 breast prelims with a 1:57.44, improving his time by 0.28 seconds to earn a spot on the podium. Drew Grespin did his work in the morning prelims session to earn an eighth-place finish in the event.

Mia Moulden gave Denver its first win of the weekend with an exceptional swim, improving on her prelim time by over two seconds and out-racing the field by more than 3.5 seconds, cruising to victory with an NCAA B time of 1:57.97. Daniela Alfaro finished fifth for the Pioneers with a 2:03.28.

Denver had two men's swimmers earn NCAA B-cuts in the men's 200 fly. Brandon Chapman took fourth with a 1:45.40 and Dan Kunin finished seventh with a 1:45.76.

The 2022 Big Al Invite ended with the 400 free relay on Sunday night. Denver's women grabbed fourth as Remington, Marin, Megan Lucyshyn and Metuzals combined for a 3:23.33.
