Pioneers Open 2022 Season at Home vs. Louisville

Women's lacrosse faces the Cardinals for the ninth time in 10 seasons

DENVER – The No. 14 Denver Pioneers women's lacrosse team opens its 2022 campaign on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT against the Louisville Cardinals at Peter Barton Stadium.
 
The Pioneers went 16-2 in 2021, winning Big East regular season and tournament championships.
 
Louisville played up in Boulder on Friday afternoon and fell 14-13 at the Colorado Buffaloes.
 
DI Series History vs. Louisville
Denver is 5-3 all-time against Louisville. The Pioneers won the first-ever matchup between the two squads in 2013 by a score of 19-13 and have not dropped a game against the ACC outfit since 2016.  The teams did not meet in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic, but before that they had met for eight straight seasons.
 
Last Meeting vs. Louisville
The two teams last clashed on Feb. 15, 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky, and Denver returned home with a 15-6 win. Bea Behrins scored six goals for the Pios, and Quintin Hoch-Bullen netted a hat trick as well.
 
Last Time Out
Denver ended its 2021 season with a 19-4 loss to Northwestern in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Molly Little scored her first career hat trick, while Amelia Cole set Denver's single-game NCAA Tournament saves record with 15 stopped shots.

  • DU is coming off a 2021 Big East regular season title, the first in its 30-year history.
  • The Big East preseason coaches' poll unanimously selected Denver as the preseason favorite (coaches weren't allowed to vote for their own teams).
  • Graduate students Sammie Morton and Behrins and seniors Kailee Lammers and Madeleine Mason are this year's team captains.
  • Behrins was named to the pre-season watch list for the women's Tewaaraton Award, given to the best lacrosse player in the country at the end of the season.
  • Behrins, Morton and Sam Thacker were named to the Big East preseason all-conference team.
  • Behrins and Little each picked up 2022 Sportswomen of Colorado honors. Behrins picked up the award for Outstanding Achievement in Division-I Lacrosse while Little received the Bravery Award.
  • Sophomore Raegan Wilson will be representing Canada at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship.

UP NEXT: The Pioneers open the 2022 regular season on Sunday as they host Louisville at Peter Barton Stadium. Admission is free, though spectators will have the option to donate to the program.
