KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Junior forward Bobby Brink had three points and the No. 3 University of Denver hockey team used three power-play goals to defeat the No. 6 Western Michigan Broncos 4-1 on Friday night at Lawson Ice Arena.
 
It was the Pioneers' first victory at Western Michigan since Jan. 14, 2017, ending a four-game losing streak in Kalamazoo. DU (22-6-1, 15-4-0 NCHC) is now 5-0-1 in its last six games against the Broncos (19-8-1, 11-7-1 NCHC) and is on a four-game road winning streak, improving to 8-5-0 away from Denver this year.
 
Brink, the NCAA leader in scoring with now 47 points (11g/36a), had a goal and two assists in the game, with points on all three power-play tallies.  DU went 3-for-6 on the power play, the fifth time that the Pios have scored three times with the man advantage this season.
 
Sophomore Carter Savoie had a goal and an assist and freshman defenseman Sean Behrens contributed two helpers for the Pios. Jackson, Michigan, native Carter Mazur and defenseman Mike Benning scored in the third period to seal the for the Pioneers, who received a 22-save effort from goaltender Magnus Chrona.
 
The Broncos tallied first on the evening as Cole Gallant's wrist shot found twine midway through the first period, but it was the only puck that got past Chrona as the Pios went on to score four unanswered.
 
Savoie tied the contest on a power-play marker with 2:48 remaining in the stanza off a pass by Bobby Brink, and Savoie returned the favor later in the second period. Brink recorded his 11th goal of the season by burying a one-timer from the high slot at 6:16 of the middle frame—it ended up being the game-winner.
 
The Pioneers added two more goals in the third as Benning's got his 11th tally of the year at 7:07, and Mazur recorded the third power-play marker of the night with a deflection 97 seconds later.
 
Denver wraps up the weekend series at Western Michigan on Saturday at 5 p.m. MT.

• Denver is now 22-10-2 all-time against Western Michigan and 5-8-0 at Lawson Arena.
• DU scored three-power-play goals in a game for the fifth time this season, its 13th contest this year with multiple man-advantage markers.
• Bobby Brink extended his career-long point streak to now 13 games (5g/21a).
• Carter Mazur is on a three-game point streak (1g/2a).
• Carter Savoie scored his ninth power-play goal of the season and his 17th overall to tie for the team lead with Cameron Wright.
• Mike Benning played in his 50th career game.
• Ryan Barrow, Cole Guttman, Brett Stapley and Cameron Wright (with Bowling Green) were the only four Pioneers that had played at Lawson Arena previously.

7:07 DU (3-1) – Mike Benning's shot went in after the WMU goalie couldn't control the rebound.
