[58] Denver Tops [71] Iowa 4-3

Verden-Anderson clinches match with three-set win on court five

DENVER – The [58] University of Denver women's tennis team (3-4) dropped the doubles point but came from behind to win four singles matches and defeat [71] Iowa 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the Denver Tennis Park.
 
Doubles:
Britt Pursell and Camille Verden-Anderson improved to 4-3 in doubles on the year on the No. 1 court, but the Pios fell in a tiebreaker on court three and the Hawkeyes grabbed the early lead in the match by securing the doubles point.
 
Singles:
Pursell was the first over the line in singles to even the match at 1-1, taking her third-court match in straight-sets 6-2, 6-2. With the win, Pursell improved to 5-2 on the season.
 
The Pioneers grabbed the lead when Andrea Burguete Beltran matched Pursell's score with her court four victory to improve to 3-3 in the campaign.
 
Iowa evened things back up with a win on court two, but Anna Riedmiller put Denver right back into the lead minutes later with a 6-4, 6-2 win on the top court, her fourth win in seven tries in 2022.
 
Verden-Anderson clinched the match for Denver at 4-2 with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win on court five, her fourth win in six attempts on that court this season.
 
The Hawkeyes closed out the match with a win on court six to bring the score to its final result at 4-3.

Game two of Denver's four-game homestand will take place tomorrow as the Pioneers host Omaha to open Summit League play. First serve at the Denver Tennis Park is set for 1:30 p.m. MT.
