Four Pioneers in double figures in loss

FARGO, N.D. - The University of Denver men's basketball team saw its two-game road winning streak end on Saturday, falling 73-65 to North Dakota State at the Scheels Center. The Bison picked up the season sweep with the victory.

Inside the Box Score:
- Coban Porter led Denver with a team-high 15 points off the bench.
- KJ Hunt and Michael Henn each added 13 points.
- Jordan Johnson was the other Pioneer in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Significant Stats:
- Denver made 21 field goals in the contest, tying its second-lowest output of the season.
- Porter's 15 points gave him his fourth game in the last five in double figures.
- The Pioneers have made at least 6 3s in three straight contests.
- NDSU has won the last eight meetings in the all-time series.
- Tevin Smith missed his second game of the year after entering the health and safety COVID-19 protocols earlier.

An 8-2 run late by NDSU to push its lead from 59-57 to 67-59.

As it Happened:

First Half:
Henn provided the firepower early for the Pioneers, scoring the first eight points to keep DU on pace with NDSU, leading to a tie by the 15:54 mark. North Dakota State used some hot shooting, hitting six of eight shots during a stretch to take a 21-14 advantage by the under-12 media. The Bison got their first double-digit lead of the day at 26-14 on a 3 from Tyree Eady with 9:54 remaining. Denver fought its way back before a late run from NDSU gave them a 37-30 advantage at the break.

Second Half:
The Pioneers came out roaring in the second half, closing to within two points with a 14-9 run to start the final 20 minutes of regulation. Porter gave Denver its first lead since 6-5 after connecting on a jumper, giving him 11 points and making 47-46 in favor of the Pioneers with just under 12 minutes left. North Dakota State countered with a 11-6 run to retake a four-point lead at 57-53. The Bison made their move from there, pushing the lead to eight after a pair of free throws from Grant Nelson made it 67-59. Denver tried to make it close but couldn't make it anything less than a two-possession game the rest of the way as NDSU made its free throws late to get the win.
