Denver Diving Closes NCAA Zone E Championships

Freshmen divers Maya Belanger and Jon Brouillette post good showings
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The University of Denver men's and swimming diving teams finished up the NCAA Zone E Championships on Wednesday.
Day 1 (Monday)
Ammar Hassan placed 18th in the prelims in the men's 3m, advancing to the finals. In the finals, Hassan took 18th with a score of 586.90.
In the women's 1m prelims, Kylie Katsuyoshi was the Pioneers high finisher, taking 22nd with a score of 252.45 points, just 8.2 points off qualifying for the finals as a freshman. Her score was about seven points higher than at the Summit League Championship.
Zora Opalka (26th, 243.20), Maya Belanger (29th, 239.00) and Olivia Gordon (32nd, 237.25) rounded out the Crimson and Gold in the event.
Day 2 (Tuesday)
Belanger narrowly missed out qualifying for the finals in the women's 3M, placing 20th (271.05), just 5.95 points off. The 20th-place finish is the highest by a DU women's diver at zones on the 3m.
Gordon shook off a slow start to finish 22nd with a six-dive total of 262.00, which was highlighted by season highs in on back 2.5 ss (46.20) and a back 2.5 tw 1.5 ss (49.00).
Opalka finished up the prelims in 46th.
Day 3 (Wednesday)
Jon Brouillette had a good day, getting 285.05 points in the prelims to place 16th and advance to the finals. In the finals, the freshman posted a score a 288.45, giving him a total of 573.50, good for 18th.
Brouillette is the first freshman diver to make the finals at zones for DU since Ross Edfort in 2011-12.
