Denver Falls Against Top-Seeded South Dakota State

Uju Ezeudu with a team-high 25 points in the loss

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.  - The University of Denver women's basketball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday, falling to No. 1 seed South Dakota State, 86-59 in the Summit League Quarterfinals at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Inside the Box Score:
- Uju Ezeudu led DU with 25points and five rebounds.
- Anna Jackson added eight points, highlighted by two made triples.
- Indeya Sanders had 10 points for the Pioneers, the other Pioneer in double figures.
- Myah Selland led SDSU with a game-high 26 points.

Significant Stats:
- Ezeudu made history, becoming just the fourth player in program history to score at least 500 points in a single season.
- The Jackrabbits took all three meetings in the season series.

Turning Point:
A 16-0 run by the Jackrabbits to go up early in the first quarter.

As it Happened:
 
First Quarter:
Denver opened with a deep 3 from Ezeudu on the first possession of the day to take the lead. South Dakota State, though, countered with a 13-0 run to push their lead into double digits and forced the Pioneers to take a timeout with 5:57 left in the first quarter. DU closed the quarter with some points late, trailing 25-11.

Second Quarter:
Both teams came out and traded baskets in the early minutes of the quarter. Denver continued to fight hard against the Jackrabbits, only being outscored 19-14 in the quarter.
 
Third Quarter:  
A tough shooting quarter allowed for South Dakota State to build on its lead over the 10-minute span, taking a 70-38 advantage.  
 
Fourth Quarter:
Denver had its best shooting quarter of the afternoon, going 8-for-14 from the field while outscoring SDSU 21-14. Ezeudu got 11 of her 25 points in the quarter in just eight minutes of action.

Up Next:
Denver (10-20, 5-13 SL) will return to action in the fall to prep for the 2022-23 season.
