Bobby Brink Signs with Philadelphia Flyers

Denver hockey forward led the nation in scoring

DENVER – The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Sunday that the team signed University of Denver hockey forward Bobby Brink to a three-year, entry-level NHL contract.

Brink, 20, led the NCAA in scoring during the 2021-22 campaign and helped the Pioneers capture the 2022 NCAA Championship, the program's record-tying ninth national title.  He posted career highs with 57 points and 43 assists, the most at DU since Gabe Gauthier also had 57 points in 2004-05 and Dave Shields had 43 assists in 1989-90.  The junior added 14 goals and also finished first in the country in points per game (1.39).

The Minnetonka, Minnesota, native was one of two players in the nation to reach the 50-point threshold and was just the second Pioneer to lead the country in scoring at the end of the season, joining Ed Beers in 1981-82.  He was named a West First-Team All-American, becoming the 48th player in program history to earn All-America honors and the first since Ian Mitchell in 2020.

One of three Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalists as college hockey's most outstanding player, Brink registered 48 points (11g/37a) in the final 33 games of the season.  He gained 35 (9g/26a) of his 56 points during conference play, the most in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and was later named both the NCHC Player and Forward of the Year.  He was also the only unanimous selection for the 2021-22 All-NCHC First Team.

Brink was recognized as both the NCHC and the Hockey Commissioners' Association's National Player of the Month for February after totaling 15 points (5g/10a) in eight games.  Brink recorded a career-long 14-game point streak (7g/21a) from Dec. 31-Feb. 19, the longest by a Denver player since Danton Heinen had an 18-game run from Jan. 22-March 27, 2017 (14g/20a).  He picked up at least one assist in each of the first 13 games of the streak, also a personal best.

Selected in the second round (34th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Flyers, Brink concluded his collegiate career with 92 points (27g/65a) and a 1.11 points-per-game average in 83 total games.

Internationally, Brink represented the United States at both the 2020 and 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, winning a gold medal in 2021. He also suited up for Team USA at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship and 2018 World Junior A Challenge, winning a bronze and gold medal, respectively.

Brink was named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and has been recognized as an NCHC Distinguished-Scholar Athlete in each of his three years at DU.  To be eligible for the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete award, a player must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better.
