OMAHA – The [65] University of Denver men's tennis team saw its bid for a second straight Summit League Championship come up short on Saturday, falling to Drake 4-3 at the Miracle Hill Golf & Tennis Center.
Doubles:
The Pioneers dropped the doubles point to the Bulldogs to start the day, with the duo of
James Davis and
Matt Summers losing 6-3 and
Daniel Krulig and
Charlie Miller falling 6-4.
Singles:
DU got itself going in singles play, getting points on courts 1-2 and 6.
Davis set the tone on court one, knocking of Drake's Matija Matic in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to get Denver's first point in singles play. The England native improved to 12-5 on the year with the victory.
On court two,
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta recorded the third point for the Pioneers, getting the victory in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (7-5), 6-2. The sophomore from Spain picked up his 16th victory of the year in singles play.
Summers saw his 11-match streak come to an end, falling in a trophy-clinching three-set defeat on court three, 7-5, 4-6, 5-7.
Peter Sallay dropped his match on court four, falling 6-3, 6-4 to Oliver Johansson, snapping his three-match winning streak.
Krulig fell in straight sets on court five, 6-4, 6-4.
Miller picked up a point for the Pioneers on court six, taking out Matthew Clegg in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
