Four Joining DU Nordic Squad For 2023 Season

Pioneers adding two skiers from Norway and two from North America

DENVER – University of Denver Skiing announced today that the team has added four student-athletes to its Nordic squad for the upcoming 2023 winter season.
 
The newest class of Pioneers includes Selma Andersen (Oslo, Norway) and Aurora Cramer (Boise, Idaho) on the women's side and Micah Steinberg (Canmore, Alberta) and Sivert Wulff (Trondheim, Norway) for the men.
 
"I'm excited to welcome the newest additions to the Denver Nordic Ski Team for the 2023 season," said DU Nordic Head Coach Rogan Brown. "All four of these incoming freshmen are not only great athletes but are also great people that will fit into the culture we're building here at DU. There is a lot of talent in this group that I think will help push our entire team to be better in the classroom and on the snow."

Before Denver:
Previously competed for Røa IL and Fossum Elite … Placed sixth in the Norwegian national team sprint with her sister in 2022 … Earned a top-30 result in 21st in the 20K classic in the Scandinavian Cup in Otepaa, Estonia, on Feb. 12, 2022 … Came in 19th in the 30K freestyle and 32nd in the 10K classic at Norway's National Championships on March 26-29, 2022 … Finished 19th in the Skiathlon (7.5K classic/7.5K freestyle) on April 7, 2022 at the Norwegian Nationals.
 
Personal:
Born March 7, 2001 … Daughter of Jon and Elin Rugnes Andersen … Has a sister, Nora … Graduated from Persbråten VGS in 2020 … Father was a Nordic combined skier for the Norwegian National Team.
 
Why DU:
"I wanted to have the opportunity to combine both studies and skiing, and I think Denver is perfect for that."

Before Denver:
Competed for Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation's post-graduate program in 2022 … Was second in the 5K individual freestyle and third in the 10K classic mass start at the 2022 U.S. Junior Nationals … Earned the Female Outstanding Performance honor for IMD at 2022 Junior Nationals … Won the 10K freestyle mass start at the Jackson Hole Junior National Qualifier on Feb. 2, 2022 … Also competes in biathlon, where she placed 11th in the 6K sprint, 15th in the 7.5K pursuit and 11th in women's relay at the 2022 Youth World Biathlon Championships … Member of Team USA for the 2022 Junior IBU Cup and Junior Open European Championships … Qualified as the second overall junior and first youth at 2021 U.S. Youth and Junior Biathlon World Trials (second overall in 7.5K sprint, third overall in 10K normalized pursuit and first overall 6K sprint).
 
Personal:
Born Jan. 26, 2003 … Daughter of Cheryl and Jeffrey Cramer … Has a younger brother, Grayson … Mother played college tennis at Creighton University … Graduated from Timberline High School in Boise in 2021 … Competed in competitive soccer from first to 10th grade … also played volleyball, tennis and ran track and cross country in high school … First tried biathlon in June 2020 … Career goals include attending medical school and studying to become a physician and maybe pursue skiing or biathlon after graduating from DU … Also enjoys running, mountain biking, hiking, drawing and other various outdoor activities.
 
Why DU:
"I chose the University of Denver for the opportunity to be close to the mountains, as well as the ability to ski for a mid-sized school that offered so many academic benefits. The campus and people were amazing when I visited, and the quarter system will enable me to explore a wider variety of classes than a traditional semester schedule would. I am excited to live in Colorado, a place that is different enough from home, but still close enough to my family."

Skied for Foothills Nordic Ski Club … Placed fourth in the 15K classic individual start at the 2022 Canadian World Junior Trials (U20) … Came in third in the 2022 national trials in the U20 classic sprint … Finished sixth in the 21K freestyle and finished 11th in the 1.4K classic sprints at the Canada National Junior Championship on March 23-27, 2022 … Was 38th in the 15K classic and 64th in the 10K freestyle at the Canadian National Championships on March 20-21, 2022.
 
Personal:
Born April 27, 2002 … Son of Elliott Steinberg and Diana Kalef … Brother Jonah is also on the DU Ski Team … Graduated from Henry Wise Wood High School in Calgary in 2020 … Plans on majoring in marketing and minoring in communications studies … Joined Denver to accomplish his skiing goals while achieving academic success by also getting his degree … Also enjoys mountain biking, ski touring, disc golf and photography.

Sivert Wulff | Nordic | Trondheim, Norway
6-0 | Heimdal VGS Trondheim
 
Before Denver:
Was team captain for Heimdal VGS and a member of the Elite Ski Team of the school … Had eight top-10 finishes and two podiums as a junior on the Norwegian Cup circuit … Competed in the 10K freestyle at the 2022 Norwegian National Championships … Placed 16th in the 1.5K classic sprints at the 2020 Junior National Championships in Norway … Was 14th in the 10K freestyle, 25th in the 10K classic and 17th in the 1.6K freestyle sprints at Norway's National Juniors in 2019.
 
Personal:
Born Aug. 2, 2002 … Is both American and Norwegian … Son of Kurt Wulff and Kristin Tjelle … Both of his parents skied for the University of Utah and won NCAA National Championships with the Utes in the late 1990s … Enjoys playing music, including the bass guitar, as well as backcountry skiing and being in the mountains.
