DU Women’s Soccer Hosts San Diego in Thursday’s Season Opener

Denver kicks off 2022 campaign at 7 p.m.

2021 REWIND:
DU captured its fifth Summit League regular-season title before advancing to the Summit League Final with a 4-2 shootout-win over South Dakota in the semifinal. In the title game against South Dakota State, then-junior Sydney Sharp scored just 26 seconds into the match to give DU an early 1-0 lead. SDSU scored four in a row before then-senior Devan McSwain's 86th-minute goal pulled DU within two, though South Dakota State would go on to win 4-2.
 
Denver finished the 2021 season with a 13-6-2 overall record and was 8-0-1 in league play.
 
QUICK HITS:
  • For the sixth year in a row, Denver was voted as the Summit League preseason favorite and placed Feller and McSwain on the Players to Watch list.
  • DU returns four student-athletes for a fifth year in 2022: Nerea Arrazola, Camryn MacMillan, Feller and McSwain.
  • Feller captured additional preseason honors as a United Soccer Coaches Midfielder to Watch and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Third Team.
  • Denver's 2022 roster features six newcomers in freshmen midfielders Isabella Chidiac, Allyson Henry, Lily O'Grady and Hannah Tate; defender Audrey Miller; and goalkeeper Alina Santos.
  • Among Denver's returners are 2021 United Soccer Coaches' All-West Region Team members Kaitlyn Glover and Feller; 2021 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year McSwain; and 2021 Summit League All-Newcomer Team members Riley Baker and Jadyn Goodrich.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
Denver is 1-3-1 all-time against San Diego, most recently playing to a 1-2 loss at USD on September 25, 2021. The Toreros have not traveled to Denver since September 4, 2004, in a 3-0 win for DU.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
DU continues opening weekend when it hosts Weber State on Sunday, August 22, at 12 p.m.
