Lockwood Has All-Around Night in DU Win at SDSU

Pioneer win streak moves to four in a row

BROOKINGS, SD --The Denver volleyball team beat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in four sets (25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20) Thursday on the road at Frost Arena.

The conference victory improved Denver's record to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in Summit play. The win also pushed the DU winning streak to four straight matches, its longest streak this season. 

The Pioneers offense was paced by Hailey Green, who finished with 15 kills on the day. Jordan Lockwood added 14 and Cadi Boyer chipped in with 11 as part of balanced Denver attack. Defensively, had four players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by Gianna Bartalo's 23, 15 from Alayna Finucan, and 12 more from Lorrin Poulter. From the front row, Brianna Green contributed six blocks and Boyer added five rejections.

SET 1 | The Pioneers won the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-18. Denver led by as many as nine points at 12-3 before closing out the set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six South Dakota State attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Denver carried momentum from a set-one win by earning a 25-19 victory in the second set. The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn the victory. Denver opened up as much as a seven point lead at 22-15 before closing out the set, totaling 16 kills along the way. The Pioneers hit .324 over the course of the set.

SET 3 | Denver saw its bid for a 3-0 sweep end when South Dakota State took set three. The Pioneers lost a tough set 25-18. Denver trailed by as many as seven points as South Dakota State grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up five times before the Jackrabbits took over the lead.

SET 4 | Denver then responded to claim the match win with a 25-20 set-four victory. The Pioneers led from the first point on in the set to earn the victory. Denver opened up as much as a six point lead at 12-6 before closing out the stanza. Denver also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
