Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

DU Women’s Soccer Tops North Dakota 2-0 on Sunday

Denver posts second shutout win of opening weekend for Summit League play

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team collected its second 2-0 victory of the weekend, shutting out North Dakota on Sunday to improve to 2-0-0 in Summit League play.

Graduate student Camryn MacMillan scored the game winner in the third minute, capitalizing on the first corner kick for either team. Graduate student Devan McSwain headed down the corner to fellow graduate student Sami Feller, who kept the ball in play and in position for MacMillan to finish.

Sophomore Ella Frost added the insurance goal, her second of the season, midway through the first half.

COACH'S NOTES:
From head coach Jeff Hooker: "To get a goal that early takes a lot of pressure off. Sometimes you kind of take the foot off the gas and not continue to play when you get a goal early on, but I didn't feel like we did that.

"In the second half, I thought we had some chances, but we gave up chances when North Dakota started pushing a little bit. (UND head coach Chris Logan) coached them up really, really well in the second half and gave us a lot more resistance and had a few chances. Fortunately, we didn't give one up."

SIGNIFICANT STATS:

  • MacMillan's goal at 2:34 is the third fastest in the month of September in program history and the 17th fastest overall.
  • For the second time this season, Frost had a team-leading five shots, which matches her career best set earlier this season at Eastern Washington.
  • Redshirt senior Nerea Arrazola secured her second straight shutout, her fourth of the year and the 24 of her career. One more will tie her for fourth most in DU history.
  • Eleven Pioneers had at least one shot, which is a new season's best.
  • Denver's 12 first-half shots would have matched the second most in an entire game coming into the day. DU also finished with 24 total shots and 10 on goal, both season highs.

FIRST HALF:
3' | MacMillan put Denver up 1-0 early after McSwain headed down the corner to Feller inside the box.

10' | Junior Jordan Crockett narrowly missed from 15 yards out, ringing the ball off the crossbar.

29' | Frost jogged into the box, connecting off a deflection from a North Dakota defender inside the box.

SECOND HALF:
47' | Junior Addisyn Hyrup put a rebound in the back of the net, but Denver was called offside.

61' | Crockett hit the crossbar for the second time in the match.

67' | Junior McKenna Dannenhauer took a shot from inside the penalty area, and Frost added a second shot off the rebound, but North Dakota's Madi Livingston made both saves.

77' | UND's Livingston made a diving save on a shot from sophomore Blythe Sales after senior Kaitlyn Glover fed the ball perfectly from midfield.

86' | North Dakota made a final offensive push and put a shot on net off a throw, but Arrazola made the save.
