DENVER – The University of Denver hockey program unveiled on Monday morning the team's 2022 NCAA Championship ring, commemorating the Pioneers' ninth national title in their seven-plus decade history.
The rings were presented to players, coaches and staff in a private ceremony on Sunday evening, with DU Chancellor Jeremy Haefner, alumni and friends of the program also present.
Denver's championship band features 70 stones on the dome, with the 2021-22 interlock DU logo centered and the words "National Champions" featured around the mark. On the sides with the loops, nine total crimson stones are displayed on top to represent the school's nine national championships won in ice hockey, tied for the most in college hockey history.
The sides of the ring celebrate the Pioneers' run during the 2022 national tournament. On one side, the players' rallying cry during the season, BYOP, is displayed above the iconic image of captain
Cole Guttman raising the championship trophy in front of his teammates. In between the imagery is the final score of the NCAA title contest against Minnesota State on April 9: 5-1.
On the opposite side of the ring has the year "2022" and each player's name and number presented. Above the individualized information are the scores of DU's other three national tournament contests: "3-2" versus UMass Lowell on March 24, "2-1" versus Minnesota Duluth on March 26 and "3-2" versus Michigan on April 7.
The bottom of the band has the short-form of the school's nickname, Pios, while the inside of the band has the number "9" displayed as well as the years of the program's nine national titles: 1958, 1960, 1961, 1968, 1969, 2004, 2005, 2017 and 2022.
Denver's 2022 championship ring was designed by Jostens, with the team's 2021-22 seniors and leadership group providing input on the look.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers begin competition with an exhibition against Nevada Las Vegas this Saturday, Oct. 1 at Magness Arena. The team opens the regular season by co-hosting the Ice Breaker Tournament versus Notre Dame and Maine on Oct. 7-8.
