DENVER, CO --The Denver men's basketball team shot 50 percent from three-point range, but fell to the North Dakota State Bison 90-70 at home Thursday.
The Pioneers (10-9, 1-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Touko Tainamo, who had 13 points. Tevin Smith added 12 points and four assists and Tommy Bruner chipped in as well with 11 points and two steals.
Led by Tainamo's two offensive rebounds, Denver did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 30-17, Denver went on a 6-0 run with 8:04 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Smith, to narrow its deficit to 30-23. North Dakota State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Pioneers down 43-34 entering halftime.
North Dakota State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 74-53 advantage before Denver went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Pedro Lopez Sanvicente's three, to shrink the deficit to 74-58 with 6:50 to go in the contest. North Dakota State responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 90-70. Denver got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 23 of its 36 total points.
