The Pioneers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 44-25 halftime deficit.

North Dakota State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 46-25 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Smith, to trim its deficit to 46-32 with 7:39 to go in the third.
