South Dakota increased its lead after halftime, building a 36-24 advantage before Denver went on an 8-0 run to trim its deficit to 36-32 with 5:58 to go in the third. South Dakota countered and stretched its lead to 44-38 heading into the fourth. Denver took advantage of four South Dakota turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.

South Dakota kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 48-38 advantage before Denver went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Mikenzie Jones' layup, to shrink the deficit to 48-43 with 6:46 to go in the contest. South Dakota responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 59-50.
