DU Men’s Tennis Wins 4-3 at Northern Arizona

Denver wins final two must-win singles matches; Olsen clinches in deciding tiebreak

FLAGSTAFF, Arizona – The University of Denver men's tennis team took home a 4-3 win over Northern Arizona on Saturday, capturing four of the six singles points including the match decider in a third-set tiebreak.

Doubles:
DU dropped the doubles point despite close battles on Courts 1 and 3. Junior Charlie Miller and redshirt senior Anish Sriniketh battled to a tiebreaker in No. 3 Doubles for DU but fell 7-2 to give the point to NAU.

Singles:
Denver battled in singles, seeing four of its matches go to a third set. Miller and junior Nicolas Herrero Cuesta won the only two singles matches to wrap up in straight sets, Herrero Cuesta doing so with matching 6-3 wins on Court 1 to win DU's first point of the day.

In No. 6 Singles, Miller fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the first set, breaking twice to take it 7-5 before joining Herrero Cuesta with a win in two sets.

Down 2-3 to NAU with only two matches remaining, Denver pushed both Court 2 and Court 4 to third sets after losing the first set on both courts in tiebreaks. Sophomore Daniel Sancho Arbizu played a second tiebreak in the second set, this time winning it 7-2. In the third set, he broke midway through the third set to go up 4-2 and ended up taking the set 6-3 to tie up the team standings at 3-3.

Graduate student Conner Olsen, too, came back to win the second set after dropping the first in a tiebreak and was down a break in the third before getting back on serve and forcing what would be a match-deciding tiebreaker – his second in as many matches. After going down 1-3 early in the decider, Olsen leveled things up and held on to take it 11-9 to clinch DU's victory.
