DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team ranks No. 1 in the country in the USCHO.com poll and No. 2 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll after the latest national rankings were released on Monday.
 
DU is No. 1 for the sixth-straight week in the USCHO.com ranking after earning 29-of-50 first place votes and 968 points. Quinnipiac is second with 951 points and 10 first-place votes, while Minnesota is third with 929 points and 11 first-place votes.
 
Denver trails only Minnesota in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, as the Gophers have just one more point (648-647) and first-place vote (15-14) than the Pioneers. Quinnipiac ranks third with 639 points and five first-place tallies.
 
Overall, the NCHC has three teams ranked, as St. Cloud State comes in at No. 4 in both polls while Western Michigan ranks at No. 13 and 14. Omaha, Colorado College and North Dakota also received votes in the polls.
 
In the Pairwise computer rankings that determine the field for the national tournament, Denver presently ranks third overall. St. Cloud State is No. 5, Western Michigan is No. 14 and North Dakota is No. 18.
 
The Pios are on a season-long, seven-game winning streak and are coming off a sweep of Lindenwood in their most recent matchups on Dec. 16-17, winning 5-0 and 5-4. DU returns from the holiday break this weekend as it hosts Alaska Fairbanks on Friday at 7 p.m. MT and Saturday at 6 p.m. MT at Magness Arena.
 
About the DCU/USCHO.com Poll: The rankings are compiled weekly and consists of 50 voters, including coaches and media professionals from across the country.
 
About the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll: The rankings are conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey.
