Denver Women Top BYU on Senior Day

The Pioneers will head north to take on Wyoming on Saturday at 3 p.m. MT

DENVER – The University of Denver women's swimming and diving program nearly doubled up BYU for its third dual win of the season on Friday evening at El Pomar Natatorium. The Cougars earned a split by winning the men's dual. In-between the diving and swimming portions of the meet, Denver honored its 2023 senior class.

Diving took place before tonight's Senior Day festivities and swimming events. Olivia Gordon led a Denver quartet that took four of the top five spots with her 266.78. On the men's side, Zyad Morsy had some big dives, making a clean sweep of the 1-meter (317.25) and 3-meter (355.43), earning NCAA Zone scores in both events.
 
Denver's women opened the swimming portion of the meet with a 1-2 finish in the women's 200 medley relay, led by Natalie Arky, Jessica Maeda, Mia Moulden and Erika Remington's time of 1:42.97.
 
The Pioneers' first men's win of the evening came in the 1000 free as Joseph Purdy reached the final wall in 9:31.07 to take the top spot. Joseph Hancock and Riley Babson earned third and fourth, respectively.
 
Sofia Nosack got Denver back on the top step of the women's podium with a 1:53.43 in the women's 200 free. Kieran Watson made it a clean sweep of event wins for Denver in the event, taking the men's race in 1:41.01.
 
The Pios took the top two spots in the women's 50 free. Remington and Megan Lucyshyn finished with times of 23.61 and 23.87, respectively.
 
Denver's women made a clean sweep of the podium in the 200 IM. Jessica Maeda clocked in at 2:04.15, Mia Moulden finished the race in 2:07.80 and Mina Ada Solaker rounded out the trio with a 2:09.03.
 
Marco Nosack earned the Denver men another event win with a 1:50.66 in the men's IM.
 
DU grabbed the top four spots in the women's 100 fly. Moulden led the way in 57.01, Mary O'Neil took second in 57.67, Emmy Francell earned a third-place finish in 57.78 and Chrysten Pacheco rounded out the quartet with a 58.49.
 
Brandon Chapman made a close race of the men's 100 fly, finishing in second with a 49.91.
 
Remington got Denver back on the top step with a 51.61 to capture the women's 100 free. Frank Tirone took second in the men's 100 free with a 45.72.
 
Denver's women earned yet another podium sweep in the women's 100 back. Arky won the race in 54.53. Fellow senior Gaby Antonini took second in 56.90 and Ali Beay finished third in 57.86.
 
Dylan Wright and Liam Simmons finished second (51.47) and third (51.72) in the men's 100 back.
 
Riley Babson earned Denver's next victory with a 4:36.29 in the men's 500 free.
 
In the final individual events of the evening, Jessica Maeda clocked in at 1:03.06 to win the women's 100 breast, while Sophia Bricker took second in 1:03.91.
 
Alex Lynch took second in the men's 100 breast in 55.14.
 
Denver's women's 400 free relay of Ines Marin, Kali Metuzals, Mary O'Neil and Sofia Nosack capped the dual win with a 3:30.57 to take first in the race.
