DU Women’s Soccer Posts 0-0 Draw at Omaha

Denver finishes ahead of UNO in shots (18-11), shots on target (5-3)

OMAHA, Nebraska – The University of Denver women's soccer team (6-1-5, 2-0-1 Summit) dominated the final 10 minutes of play but couldn't find a goal to break what would finish as a scoreless tie at Omaha on Sunday.

Denver had the final six shots of the match – five of which came within the last nine minutes – including two each from junior Ella Frost and sophomore Isabella Chidiac, though none found the back of the net.

SIGNIFICANT STATS:
  • Sunday's match was almost exactly a year to the day since DU's last 0-0 draw in Summit League play (September 30, 2022, at South Dakota State).
  • Denver once again outshot its opponent, posting an 18-11 margin on Sunday. DU has now had more shots than its opponent in eight consecutive matches and in 10 of its last 11.
  • Junior Samantha Dreiling extended her team-leading match streak with at least one shot to 10.
  • Freshman keeper Molly Wissman collected the fifth cleansheet of her career.
  • Sunday was only the second time in 2023 that Denver conceded more corners than it earned (4-7).
FIRST HALF:
17' | Senior Jordan Crockett took the first corner of the match and placed it well inside the six-yard box, connecting with graduate student Hannah Gallegos, whose header came off awkwardly and missed the target.

33' | Wissman first blocked shot at her right post and then tipped the next UNO shot attempt clear off the subsequent corner kick.

45' | Junior Jadyn Goodrich put a bit of heat on a shot from distance, giving the UNO keeper an unexpectedly tricky shot to save.

SECOND HALF:
56' | Graduate student Kaitlyn Glover generated the first offensive chance for DU in the half and got two shots off: one that the UNO keeper pushed clear and then another off the subsequent corner kick.

79' | Frost and senior McKenna Dannenhauer combined to pressure the UNO defender, leading to Dannenhauer stealing the ball right around the edge of the penalty area but curled her shot just inches wide left.

81' | After finally gaining control of a contested ball, junior Kiera Flanagan kicked the ball back and across the field to an approaching Chidiac. The sophomore got the shot off on her first touch but missed high and wide left.

86' & 88' | Twice, junior Riley Baker beat a UNO defender deep in the box and flicked the ball back toward an incoming Pioneer. First, Frost connected but sent her shot high over the night. Next, it was junior Blythe Sales who met the ball but watched the wind help carry her ball wide left.

WHAT'S NEXT:
DU (6-1-5, 2-0-1 Summit) returns to Denver to host its final three regular-season home matches, beginning when it hosts South Dakota State on Thursday, October 5, at 7 p.m. MT.
