CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 2 Denver Pioneers hockey team used two power-play goals in the third period to come back and defeat the No. 3 Boston College Eagles 4-3 on Saturday night at Kelley Rink at Conte Forum.

Juniors Tristan Broz and Carter King both tallied while DU had man advantages in the last 10 minutes of the final frame, with King recording the game-winning goal with 2:02 remaining.

Senior Connor Caponi and junior Massimo Rizzo also scored for the Pioneers, who responded after falling 4-3 on Friday night at No. 10 Providence College. Junior Jack Devine contributed a pair of assists in the contest to stretch his season-opening point streak to four games, with him recording multiple points in each outing.

Denver goaltender Matt Davis made 24 saves in the victory, including stopping 10 shots in the third period.

One night after going 1-for-9 on the power play in Rhode Island, DU responded with two timely markers in man-up situations in the third period. Broz scored a go-ahead marker on a one-time shot off a pass from Zeev Buium at 10:19, and King knocked in the winning tally in a scramble in front of the net while BC's Cutter Gauthier was serving a roughing penalty.

The Eagles led 1-0  after the first period and 2-1 after the second period, but they were outscored 3-1 in the final stanza despite Will Smith tallying his second goal of the game to knot the outing at 3-3.

Rizzo tied the game at 1-1 for Denver 6:12 into the second frame as he flicked the puck into the net after his initial attempt was denied, and Caponi evened the score at 2-2 by swatting at the puck in the crease following a centering pass by Rieger Lorenz from below the goal line.

BC netminder Jacob Fowler made 24 saves on 28 shots faced in the loss.

DU opens a three-game homestand next weekend, Oct. 27-28, against NCAA-newcomer Augustana in the home opener before taking on in-state foe Air Force the next night to wrap up Homecoming Weekend.
